    Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security workers plan, manage and provide legal, public safety, security, and protective services. Occupations are numerous and represent multiple levels of education and skills. These occupations fall into major categories based on common knowledge and skills: correction services such as correctional officers and jailers; emergency and fire management services such as fire fighters, EMTs, paramedics, and public safety communications; security and protective services such as information security IT specialists; law enforcement such as criminal investigators, police officers, special agents; and legal services such as a court reporters or lawyers.


    Criminal Investigations - Workers in the Law Enforcement/Criminal Investigation area include a variety of occupations involved in protecting the public, maintaining order, and enforcing laws. Criminal Investigators investigate alleged or suspected violations of Federal, state, or local laws to determine if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution. This may include preparing reports that detail investigation findings, obtaining and verifying evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses or by analyzing records, obtaining and using search and arrest warrants, testifying before grand juries concerning criminal activity investigations, collecting and recording physical information about arrested suspects, including fingerprints, height and weight measurements, and photographs. Numerous job openings will stem from employment growth attributable to the desire for increased corporate, industrial and homeland security. Also, a more security‐conscious society and concern about drug‐related crimes should contribute to the increasing demand.

     Applications of Law and Legal Services Pathways - Those who work in the Legal Services area ensure the proper function of our nation's legal system. The legal system affects nearly every aspect of our society, from buying a home to crossing the street. Workers in the Legal Services pathway form the backbone of this vital system, linking to society in a myriad of ways. For this reason, they hold positions of great responsibility and are obligated to adhere to a strict code of ethics. Overall employment for Paralegals and Legal Assistants in Georgia is expected to grow 28 percent from 2010 to 2020 while all other support workers will increase by only 9%. Prospects for employment will be best for those who have attended some type of postsecondary training and/or education. Job openings in Legal Services will stem from employment growth attributable to the desire for increased corporate, industrial and homeland security. Also, a more security‐conscious society and concern about drug‐related crimes should contribute to the increasing demand.

    Public Management & Administration Pathway - The Public Management and Administration Pathway and introduces students to the introductory knowledge and technical skills of working in public service and serving the general public in a government or public administration career. Topics will include identifying personal strengths and weaknesses and include oral and written communication skills, critical thinking for problem solving, developing leadership and teamwork skills, employability skills, and technical skills for this career cluster.
