• Otwell Middle School is home to a variety of clubs and organizations that students are encouraged to join. Joining a club or organization fosters school spirit and is fun!
     

    OMS Clubs and Organizations

    Art Club: Sponsor-Ashley Mayabb (Room 523)-Open to all grade levels, art club seeks to create a safe space for individuals to explore the creative world through a variety of unique lessons and materials. The OAC meets once a month from 4:30 until 6:30. More information including the application process and a calendar of events can be found here

     
    Chess Club:  Sponsor:  Mr. Bruce:  

    Chess club is free and meets every Thursday morning starting at 8:00. During this time we will be playing individual games, tournaments, and discussing basic strategies for game play and for individual pieces. We will provide the boards and pieces. All we need is people to play.

     
     
     
    Competition Math Club:   Mr. Bruce 

    Our competition math team is paid for by our school and competes in mathcounts and county events. We will hold our school mathcounts competition in January. The top 12 finishers will move on to the chapter level. The top 10% at the chapter level will move on to state and possibly nationals. The county competitions will include a mathleague competition in October at Shiloh Point Elementary School. The top 20 finishers at this competition will move on to the AMC 10 competition in November. We will also compete in the AMC 8 competition in January at Hendricks Middle school. Our last competition will be the pi fight, which is put on by county. Pi fight happens in April and will be only for our 6th grade competitors.

     
     
     

    DECA Club: Sponsor:Ms. Billups Room 510 - DECA is an organization that encourages students to develop skills in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. DECA helps students by increasing leadership skills and confidence by providing experiences in which students can grow and show their professionalism. DECA meets once a month at 8 am in the Media ºìÐÓÖ±²¥app.  In DECA, students will be encouraged to compete in marketing competitions such as mock job interviews, community service campaigns, sports marketing events and much more.  DECA members also have an opportunity to work at the NEW school store where they learn responsibility, customer service, and employability skills.     Drama Club Productions - Sponsor – Mrs. Sarah Shiver  (Room 512) - The OMS Drama Club performs two productions each school year - a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Students of any grade level can be involved and participation in the productions as a performer is by audition only.  Students can also be selected to assist with sets, costumes, and backstage work.  If a student is in the fall production, that does not guarantee they will be in the spring production -- students will audition for each production.  Commitment to each production is of utmost importance.  Everyone is welcome to audition for Drama Club Productions!     E-Sports Gaming Club:  Sponsor-Logan Florence-  In this club we create teams to play video games in a fun and safe competitive environment. Cooperation, strategy,  teamwork, and a willingness to learn are all requirements of being part of this club. The point of this club is to provide students with an experience that will help them better to prepare for the high school teams that are forming all over the county while also creating comradery, and building relationships with other students who have similar interests and might otherwise not participate in competitive team sports.

     

    FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) -  Open to all grade levels.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club that focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ. We meet twice a month on Friday mornings at 7:50 am for a devotional, prayer, games, music, and refreshments. Throughout the year we work on service projects to benefit our school and community.  All athletes and non-athletes are invited to attend.

     

    FCCLA- Sponsor: Heather Henderson Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

     

    FFA-  Advisor – Catherine Hall (532) FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education. The National FFA Organization is committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  More information can be found at 

      

    Robotics:   Sponsor: Mr. Collins- The OMS Competition Robotics Team is a competitive team based around the Engineering Design Process used to design, build, and program a robot. The team currently completes in the Middle School VEX IQ Division. In this division, student build a robot based around the current game challenge and then enter competitions against the other team across the county and state. Over the past few years we have had several teams represent Otwell at the Local, State and World Level. Our ultimate goal every season is to qualify for Worlds.   Check out the webpage on the RECF (Robotics Education and Competition Foundation) page for more information about robotics.

    Students interested in applying for the OMS Competition Robotics Team will need to come and see Mr. Collins in the Engineering Lab to get the application form once school starts. The application must be completed by the students. No parent or teacher assistance please. Applications are due to Mr. Collins by the end of the school day on Friday, August 11th. So everyone is aware, not all students make the team. There are normally around 200 applications for 48 spots. Students will be notified if they made the team on Tuesday, August 15th.  There will be a mandatory parent meeting at 7:00PM on Thursday, August 17th in the OMS Engineering Lab for the parents of students that make the team. Dues for the OMS Competition Robotics Team is $200 for the year.
